RED BANK, NJ — Red Bank Regional High School is set to return to in-person instruction after a burst pipe closed the school in mid-February, Superintendent Louis B. Moore said.

In an update shared on Wednesday, Moore said that Red Bank Regional will resume normal building operations on Friday (which will be an “A” day for students and staff).

In addition to resuming normal building operations, Moore said regular bus service will also restart, as well as the full breakfast and lunch programs.

“We appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation during this time and look forward to seeing everyone in person on Friday,” Moore said.

Red Bank Regional faced an emergency closure in mid-February after a burst pipe caused damage to various classrooms and other spaces in the school’s main building, which required immediate remediation and repair.

Because this repair work generated elevated noise levels and limited access to impacted areas, the school moved to remote learning to protect students and staff.

According to a report from NJ.com, a total of 17 classrooms and offices, as well as two hallways, were damaged.

Flooding stemmed from a malfunction in the ventilation flume system in a classroom on the second floor that was likely caused by high winds, the report said.

Though the school used a total of six remote learning days during the emergency closure, Moore told NJ.com that they will count toward the minimum 180 days of instruction required by the NJ Department of Education.

“I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to our students, families, and staff for their continued support and cooperation,” Moore said in a Feb. 13 community update.

“We are especially grateful to our staff for their professionalism and flexibility in making the rapid adjustments necessary to implement remote instruction,” he continued. “We are also proud of our students for the maturity and dedication they have shown in staying engaged with their schoolwork during this time.”
