2 Ridgewood Identity Theft Victims Report $8,700 Stolen From Bank Accounts: Police

$4,800 was taken from one person's bank account while $3,900 was stolen out of someone else's, police said.

RIDGEWOOD, N.J. — Two residents reporting being the victims of identity theft this week.

A North Monroe Street resident reported Friday that someone used his or her identity to cash two cashier's checks totaling $4,800 from the victim's accounts, police said. The transaction occurred at a Chase Bank in Columbus, Ohio.

A Sheffield Road resident reported Saturday that someone withdrew $3,900 from his TD Bank savings and checking accounts from a branch in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, police said. TD Bank told the victim that the person used a New Jersey driver's license to withdraw the money, which police said was fraudulent.

Ridgewood detectives are investigating the incidents.

Police ask that anyone who suspects their identity may have been stolen to call them at 201-652-3900.
