5 Arrests Made During Distracted Driving Crackdown In Glen Rock

Police issued 59 cellphone and texting violations and nearly 300 other moving violations in April's Distracted Driving Awareness Month.

GLEN ROCK, NJ — Police arrested five people for driving while intoxicated and other alcohol-related offenses during Distracted Driving Awareness Month in April.

The National Safety Council runs the nationwide campaign to crackdown on driving inattention, something that was listed as a contributing circumstances in 52 percent of New Jersey motor vehicle crashes.

Driving in attention was listed as a contributing factor in crashes nine times more than speeding was, said Glen Rock Police Chief Dean Ackermann.

Police issued 270 warnings and 376 traffic summonses in April, including:

  • 59 cellphone use and/or texting violations
  • 11 seat belt violations
  • 10 for driving with suspended driver's licenses
  • 291 for moving violations such as speeding, careless driving, failure to keep right, and improper passing
