Thunderstorms Close Roads, Cause Flooding In Bergen County Monday

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A severe thunderstorm swept through Bergen County on Monday night, causing flooding and road closures.

All lanes of Route 208 northbound near Cedar Avenue in Wyckoff were closed Monday evening due to downed wires, the state Department of Transportation said.

The town's Police Department posted this video of a fire at the location:

Two right lanes and a shoulder of Route 17 through Paramus, near Century Road, were closed due to flooding, the state reported just before 7 p.m.

And at 7:20 p.m., the state posted that all northbound lanes of Route 17 through Hawthorne at Goffle Road were also closed.

After 8 p.m., NJ Transit said the Pascack Valley Line was suspended due to flooding.

The National Weather Service in New York asked residents of Bergen and Rockland counties to submit damage reports. A commenter in Wyckoff said she saw a lightning strike right before the fire started, and residents of Ridgewood, Franklin Lakes, and Wyckoff said they saw hail.
