BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A town official in Edgewater said police are investigating whether people purposely drove their cars into a flooded hotel parking lot in the borough.
During the nor'easter over the weekend, cars were submerged in the parking lot of the Comfort Inn on the Hudson River.
Greg Franz, the borough administrator, told Channel 11 PIX on Monday that police are trying to determine whether people drove there to get the insurance money.
"These vehicles didn't accidentally end up in this water," he said. "We have video documentation of vehicles coming here, purposely driving into the flooded area."
He said area residents know the low-lying area floods.
Franz confirmed his comments for Patch but stressed that so far, these are allegations.
Meanwhile, the hotel remains open.
Desi Garrison, a front desk worker at the hotel, told Patch on Sunday night, "We are open. We are still taking guests, [but] we are still flooded. so we are telling guests to enter closer to the tennis court."
Several events planned in Bergen County for last weekend were postponed, including the kids' Safety Fest at the Hillsdale train station (now Oct. 3), and an event to mark the 248th anniversary of the Baylor Massacre in River Vale (now Oct. 11).
