12:23 p.m. – Officers were dispatched to Dean Street on a 9-1-1 report of dogs fighting in the street. A preliminary investigation found that a Glen Rock woman was walking her dog, a chihuahua, on Dean Street when a bulldog ran out of a nearby home and approached them. Subsequently the bulldog grabbed ahold of the chihuahua. An area resident heard the woman screaming and ran to assist. He was subsequently able to separate the dogs. The chihuahua was found by the officers to be deceased. The bulldog had apparently been able to get out of its home due to a young child not properly latching a door.

TYCO Animal Control responded to the scene to assume the investigation and further handling of the incident from the responding officers. Incidents of this nature are investigated by Animal Control in cooperation with Bergen County Health Services.

This incident is in no way related to a similar incident where a dog was also killed on Dean Street on August 21st at around the same time of the day.
