Average Ridgewood Homeowner To Pay $46 More In Municipal Taxes

Village Council passes $47.1 million budget Wednesday.

The average homeowner will pay slightly more than $46 in municipal taxes this year, a 1.2 percent increase from last year.

The council approved the village’s $47.1 million budget Wednesday night with a 3-2 vote. Council members Michael Sedon and Susan Knudsen voted the budget down.

The average home is valued at $690,000.

The municipal tax increase is the first to hit village taxpayers in two years. Increases of 3.1 percent, and 6.8 percent in 2012 and 2011, respectively.

Police department salaries increased by $400,000 this year and group health insurance costs are up by 10 percent, said Roberta Sonenfeld, village manager said.

For every tax dollar a village homeowner pays, about 10 cents goes to the county, 65 cents to the school district and 24 percent to the village, which includes the library.
