Bergen County Residents Will Compete For National Title

The Long Island Gulls Bantam Major AAA Hockey Team will compete in the USA Hockey Nationals after winning the New York State Amateur Hockey Association Championship.

Three Bergen County Residents — including one from Glen Rock — and members of the Long Island Gulls Bantam Major AAA u14 Hockey Team will compete in the USA Hockey Nationals at the Ice House in Hackensack March 30-April 3.

Chris Birdsal of Glen Rock, JJ Piccinich of Paramus and Robert Marsanico of Allendale helped the Gulls earn the New York State Amateur Hockey Association Championship trophy, which earned the team a chance at the national title.

The Gulls went undefeated in the state tournament, defeating the Monroe County Eagles 6-0, the Troy-Albany River Rats 12-0, and the Amherst Knights 6-1 in the round robin.

In the semifinals, Long Island defeated the Westchester Express 6-1. The Gulls took home the trophy with a 3-1 victory in a rematch with the Knights in the final.
