Bergen Man Allegedly Assaulted 14-Year-Old Girl While She Slept, Police Say

Leonel Ascencio, 24 of Ramsey, was charged with aggravated criminal sexual contact. The alleged victim is related to Ascencio, police said.

A Ramsey man was charged with aggravated criminal sexual contact after he allegedly sexually assaulted a 14-year-old girl, who he is related to, while she slept, police said.

Ramsey police officers went to a Ramsey home Tuesday to conduct an interview regarding a possible sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl in September, police said.

Detectives Marc Shingelo and Adam Szelag, who worked with the Ramsey Board of Education and the state Division of Child Permanency and Protection, learned that a family member allegedly entered the girl’s and “committed an act of aggravated criminal sexual contact” as she slept, police said.

After conferring with the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Immigration and Naturalization Service, Leonel Ascencio, 24, was charged with aggravated criminal sexual contact, police said.

Ascencio was remanded to the Bergen County Jail in lieu of $250,000 bail with no 10 percent option.
