Bergen Teachers Make The Most In NJ; Here's What Ridgewood's Make

RIDGEWOOD, NJ — Village teachers are among the highest paid in the state, information from the state released recently shows.

Ridgewood pays its teachers a median salary of $83,425, which is eighth most in Bergen County and 31st highest in New Jersey.

Village teachers held a "walk-in" Tuesday in protest of starting another academic year under an expired contract. It is the third time in four years union members are beginning the school year without a new contract. (See related: Ridgewood Teachers Stage 'Walk-In' To Protest Expired Contract)

Northern Valley Regional in Bergen County takes the ultimate top spot in the Garden State with a median salary of $108,867.

The salary information is for the 2018-19 school year. It is part of the state Department of Education's Taxpayer's Guide to Education Spending, which shows the median salary in every New Jersey school district and charter school. Overall, 273 school districts make more than the state median of $66,150.

In addition to median salaries, the site also shows each district's total spending, average daily enrollment and students from sending districts, the per-pupil costs and the district's total budget spending for 2017 and 2018.
