BMW Stolen, Glen Rock Police Ask Residents To Lock Cars

Glen Rock police said the borough is seeing a recent increase in car and home burglaries. They've provided tips on how to stop them.

GLEN ROCK, NJ — On Sunday, a Gramercy Place resident reported that their BMW was stolen from their driveway overnight. The vehicle had been left in the driveway unlocked with the key fob inside.

While police officers are currently reviewing video surveillance from the area in an effort to identify the actors, police officials put out a notice to residents that they've seen an uptick in car and home burglaries.

A vehicle from stolen from an apartment complex on Maple Avenue earlier this month, and in July, another was stolen from a Southboro Lane home. The keys were inside, and the vehicle was unlocked.

In a statement released via social media, police said they are seeing a trend.

"The Glen Rock Police Department has seen a recent increase in residential burglaries and car burglaries/car thefts throughout the Borough," they said. "Some of these residential burglaries have occurred during daytime hours; vehicle burglaries are more likely to occur during the overnight hours."

Police also offered some advice to residents:

"We would like to take a moment to remind residents that one of the easiest ways to not become a victim of crime is to assure that your home and vehicle are locked at all times. Likewise, please refrain from leaving valuables in your vehicle, especially in areas that are visible through windows. Never leave your key fob or keys in your vehicle."
