Bomb Threat Forced Mall Evacuation In Bergen County: Police

Police in Bergen County received a call on Easter Sunday saying there was a bomb in a local mall, they said.

HACKENSACK, NJ — A mall in Bergen County was evacuated on Easter Sunday after a bomb threat was called in to police, officials said.

The Hackensack Police received a call at 12:48 p.m. claiming there was a pipe bomb in the Cheesecake Factory at the Shops at Riverside, said Captain Gregory Zisa on Monday.

The restaurant and surrounding businesses were evacuated for safety reasons, Zisa said.

The Bergen County K-9 Bomb Squad investigated and found no devices, he said.

The mall reopened later that afternoon.

Zisa said that police are still investigating to determine a motive, referring to the call as a "fake threat with no real danger present."

"There is currently no threat to the public," he said, "and all businesses have returned to normal operations."
