RIDGEWOOD, N.J. — Police Chief John Ward is retiring after 35 years with the department.
Village Manager Roberta Sonenfeld announced Ward's retirement at a council meeting Wednesday night.
Ward's retirement is effective July 1. He has been chief for six years. He will be director of public safety at Queensborough Community College July 27.

Sonenfeld said she and Ward are working together on a transition plan.
