The following counties are included in the National Weather Service watch: Bergen, Essex, Union, Passaic and Hudson.

The tornado watch is in effect Friday until 10 p.m. Severe thunderstorms were expected to come in the afternoon, with the main threat being damaging wind.

The NWS said there is a "small chance" of large hail and isolated tornadoes in the watch area.
