Cancer-Battling Son Of Ridgewood Cop Receiving Chemo Treatments
Cole McKeon had his first round of chemotherapy Wednesday.

RIDGEWOOD, NJ — Cole McKeon, the 2-year-old son of a village police officer, was talkative and enjoying life. McKeon has already gone thought a lot in his young life.
McKeon is receiving chemotherapy treatments at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. He is battling stage-four Neuroblastoma, a fast-moving cancer in a tumor near one of his kidneys.
McKeon's mother Stephanie said on a GoFundMe page set up for him that he was "chatting up a storm, playing in the playroom, and enjoying life" following the first day of treatment.

Nearly $75,000 has been donated to the McKeon family since the GoFundMe page went live six days ago. More than $10,000 was donated on the first day. Ania Karcher, a friend of the McKeon family, set up the page.
"It is time to rally for our loved ones," Karcher said. "With the support of their family and friends... Steph and Kevin will be able to spend the time they need with Cole and not worry about much else."

Something didn't "sit right" with Kevin McKeon after his son developed a stiff neck so his parents had a blood work and a CT scan done.
Every time the family has turned a corner since learning the diagnosis, Kevin McKeon said, it's been "devastating."
"It's going to be a long year or more. What we need from you is thoughts and prayers," McKeon said. "Don't feel sorry for us. Feel positive and optimistic that Cole makes it through this with as little difficulty as possible."
The family is optimistic about treatment and what the future holds for their son.
"I know everyday won’t be like today. The doctors have told us the side effects that will come," Stephanie McKeon said. "But if this kid has the attitude that he showed us today, we are in a great starting place."
