Critically-Injured Crossing Guard Recovering At Home, Report Says
Jo Ann Hans said she thought she wasn't going to live after being struck by a car while working as a crossing guard.

Jo Ann Hans said she cannot remember anything about the day she was thrown through the air after being hit by a car outside a Bergenfield synagogue Sept. 15.
Hans, 60, was on life support following the accident while she was a crossing guard outside Congregation Beth Abraham. The driver of a Honda Civic crashed into her despite Hans telling him to stop.

Reports said Hans was thrown into the air and suffered severe head trauma and three fractured vertebrae. She spent more than a week at Hackensack University Medical Center and two weeks at Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation before finally coming home Wednesday, The Record reported.
Hans said she thought she ”wasn’t going to make it, but then all the prayers started,” she told The Record. ”I got a second chance.”

Hans said she received homemade cards with prayers inside while recovering at the hospital, the report states.
“When I heard about people praying for me and about the cards, to me, that’s why it all changed,” Hans said.
