Former GRHS Soccer Star Nabs NJAC Rookie Honors

Montclair frosh helped team beat rival Willy P.

Another Glen Rock High School sports notable has moved on and made a splash on the collegiate level.

Maxx Wurzburger — who formerly wore number 7 on Glen Rock's varsity soccer team — earned the honor of being named New Jersey Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week with Montclair following a big win against previously undefeated rivals William Paterson. 

According to the NJAC Wurzburger "opened the week by scoring the game-winning goal on a bicycle kick in the 64th minute to propel the Red Hawks to a 3-0 win over previously unbeaten NJAC rival William Paterson. Wurzburger, who has started all nine games for the Red Hawks this season as a freshman, currently ranked tied for 14th in the NJAC in goals scored (3)."

Wurzburger, a graduate of Glen Rock High School Class of 2011, played three years on the GRHS varsity soccer team under Coach Paul Cusack. He was awarded All League, All County First Team his junior and senior year, as well as All State and All Suburban.

In his junior year Wurzburger was awarded the BPSL Player of the Year. Maxx was part of the Glen Rock High School team that captured the Group 2, Section 1 State Title for Glen Rock High School for the first time in 12 years in 2010.

He is currently attending Montclair State University, where he is undeclared. His parents are Jan and Mike Wurzburger of Glen Rock.
