Firefighters quick response to a Newcomb Street blaze prevented the fire from completely destroying a house Tuesday, authorities said.
Ridgewood firefighters received a call of a fire at 722 Neucomb St. at 10:33 a.m. and were at the house at 10:35 a.m., said fire Chief James Van Goor. The blaze was under control by 10:48 a.m.
“The quick response by our firefighters helped save the house from burning the house down and from it being completely engulfed in flames,” Van Goor said.

The gas-fed fire started when the gas line behind the kitchen stove cracked, Van Goor said, and the fire worked its way up a wall.
Construction personnel were working at the house when the fire started, Van Goor said. No one was home when the fire occurred and the home is uninhabitable, officials said.
