Getting to Know: Dee Stevens

New feature introduces you to residents, business owners

DEE STEVENS: Is the owner of , a colorful toy store on Rock Road, and the wife of Gary Stevens, the owner and head instructor of .

ON THE WEB: I use a website called Ruelala.com a lot. It’s a shopping site where I can get discounted and designer clothes and I also get my shopping fix online which is nice.  I also have been using Clubpogo.com which is mostly games. I love to play different kinds of puzzle games…and Angry Birds. Of course, I also use Facebook.

ON FOOD: I love it’s a gift to Glen Rock. The food is good, I can get portions the size I want — I don’t have to eat eight pounds of — and the people are really nice there.

ON ENTERTAINMENT: I have to watch “America’s Got Talent.” What fascinates me is the amount of true talent out there that we would never get the chance to see or hear — it mind-boggles me. It’s mindless and I like to just sit and relax. I also like normal things like “Law and Order.”

ON TRAVEL: I just got back from a three day trip with my daughter to the Grand Canyon.  I didn’t go on the Skywalk because I discovered something about myself — I am afraid of edges, it’s a vertigo kind of thing. There isn’t any logic to it whatsoever. There was no way I could get to the edge, but I would have gone on the Skywalk except it was $32, and they wouldn’t let you on with cameras or phones.

ON LEARNING: If I could learn one thing — there are a lot of things — it would probably be to learn how to fly a plane. I love to travel; to be able to take off and be able to go where I wanted, when I wanted to — that would be nice.

ON WISHES: My first wish would be for both of my children to be settled into a career, making a decent living and that they were happy — that’s all in one wish. The second would be for the leisure and means to travel wherever I wanted for as long as I wanted. A trip around the world on the QE2 would be nice. The last wish would be health — that should probably be number one though.

ON THE ISSUES: I want to know where the $800,000 our governor released to Glen Rock for the schools went. We have not heard anything about that and it’s bothering me. I hope it doesn’t go into raises for administrators or teachers — they are paid well. I have not seen anything other than the announcement that Glen Rock was given that money. It’s a lot of money as far as I’m concerned.

Editor's note: The $800,000 Dee is speaking of was dog-eared to be used specifically on special education. At a recent Board of Education meeting it was stated that all that money was likely to be tapped for use to cover expensive out-of-district special education costs.
