3:39 p.m. – A Glen Rock couple reported that they received an e-mail, purported to be from Amazon, claiming that someone had used their account to fraudulently order two laptops which were shipped to Tennessee. The email provided a phone number to call to resolve the issue. When they called the number, the individual on the phone asked for and was granted remote access to their computer. While doing so, the actor gained access to the couple’s bank accounts. Upon becoming suspicious the couple contacted Amazon and was informed that this was a known fraud scheme, and that no Amazon representative would ever request remote access to a customer’s computer. A follow up with the complainants’ bank found that there was no financial loss.
