Glen Rock Employees Victims Of Unemployment Fraud: Police

An unknown party filed for unemployment benefits in the name of two borough employees, police said. That and more in this week's blotter.

10-5-2020

9:40 a.m. – A resident of Prospect St. reported she was the victim of identity theft. She stated that an unknown party had filed for unemployment benefits in her name on September 20, 2020. She was notified by her place of employment that the claim had been filed in her name. The NJ Department of Labor Fraud Division was notified of the fraudulent claim and the Detective Bureau is investigating.

10-6-2020

12:59 p.m. – The Borough of Glen Rock Recreation Director reported damage to a sink at the Wilde Park bathrooms. A sink in the men’s bathroom was found to have been removed from the wall. The damaged sink was discovered on Sunday, October 4th by the cleaning crew. The Detective Bureau is investigating.

10-7-2020

7:40 a.m. – P.O. Graziani responded to Nectar Cafe, located at 175 Rock Road, on a report of criminal mischief. The store manager stated that when she arrived at work at 7:30 AM on this date, she observed graffiti spray painted onto the walls and sidewalk near the front door to the business. It is believed that the graffiti was drawn sometime between 4:30 PM on October 6th and 7:30 AM on October 7th. The vandalism was bias in nature and is being investigated as a bias crime. Anyone with any information that may assist with the investigation is asked to contact the Glen Rock Police Department Detective Bureau.

1:19 p.m. – The Glen Rock Borough Tax Office reported that two borough employees appeared to be the victim of fraudulent activity involving unemployment benefits. An unknown party had filed for unemployment benefits in the name of two borough employees on September 20, 2020 and September 27, 2020. Both employees are currently employed and were notified by the tax office. Both employees confirmed that they had not made the unemployment claim. The Detective Bureau is investigating.

9:40 a.m. – A resident of Gibson Pl reported he was the victim of identity theft. He stated that he discovered over the last six months several credit cards were opened using his personal information. All of the credit card companies were notified of the fraudulent activity and the Detective Bureau is investigating.
