Glen Rock To Fly Gay Pride Flag Next Month

A rainbow flag will be flown over Wilde Memorial Park.

GLEN ROCK, NJ — A rainbow flag, a symbol of gay pride, will fly over Wilde Memorial Park in June, Gay Pride Month, the Borough Council unanimously decided Monday.

A flag raising ceremony will be June 1 at noon, Mayor Bruce Packer said.

Packer said in a statement that he was "very proud" of the borough and of the council.

"Our council showed that we are unified in our desire to recognize, embrace and advocate for all of our residents. We are further willing to share in the pride of those that some ignorantly perceive to be simply 'different'," Packer said. "All Glen Rockers should be proud of who they are, know that your borough shares that pride, and be proud to be Glen Rockers."

The issue of flying a gay pride flag has been a contentious topic locally.
