GLEN ROCK, NJ — A newly founded group on Glen Rock residents will march in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement on Sunday.

Glen Rock for Black Lives Matter organized the march to "take a stand against racism and police brutality," according to a news release.

Scheduled for Sunday at 7 p.m., demonstrators will march from the Glen Rock Main Line Train Station to the municipal building. There, demonstrators will observe a moment of silence last 8 minutes and 46 seconds, signifying the time in which former Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin kneeled on the neck of George Floyd.

On Monday, an independent autopsy revealed Floyd's cause of death to be asphyxia due to sustained forceful pressure. Dr. Michael Baden and Dr. Allecia Wilson, who performed the autopsy, ruled his death a homicide.

The third-degree murder charge against Chauvin was elevated to a second-degree murder yesterday, and the other three officers present at the time of Floyd's death — Alexander Kueng, Thomas Lane, and Tou Thao — have been charged with aiding and abetting second-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter, according to court records.

According to the news release, the organizers hope demonstrators will wear mask and practice social distancing.
