Glen Rock Mayor Hosting Special Gun Safety Event Monday

Representatives from Moms Demand Action and Sandy Hook Promise will speak.

GLEN ROCK, NJ — A special event about gun safety will be held at Borough Hall Monday.

Be SMART: A Conversation About Kids, Guns, and Safety is at 7 p.m.

Mayor Bruce Packer is hosting the event. Several people have been invited to speak, including Lisa O'Donoghue and Larisa Mendez Downes of the Bergen County chapter of Moms Demand Action, Jeanne Thiesen of Sandy Hook Promise, and Jennifer Gonzalez, a gun violence survivor.

The nationwide Be SMART campaign was created to help put a stop to children dying from being shot and killed with loaded, unsecured guns.

Speakers will cover a variety of topics, including gun storage before play dates, "see something, say something programs," and suicide.
