Glen Rock PD Warns Of Scams Targeting Elderly
In a news release, Glen Rock police say the elderly population is being targeted with new scams, taking advantage of the COVID-19 pandemic.
GLEN ROCK, NJ — In a news release, the Glen Rock Police Department says scammers are taking advantage of the COVID-19 pandemic by targeting the community's elderly population with a variety of scams.
One such scam, explains the department in the release, features callers stating that a grandchild has been arrested and posing as a bail bondsman.
Another scam, according to the department, features a caller posing as an employee of the IRS, stating that they are due money. "Understand, the IRS will never call you and pressure you into settling your tax debt with a MoneyGram or gift card," reads the release.
