Glen Rock Police Blotter, May 25-May 31

GLEN ROCK, NJ — Released by Glen Rock police and unedited by Patch, a spotlight on notable arrests from last week.

05-25-2020

2:04 p.m. – The property manager at the Academy of Our Lady School on Rodney Street reported finding possible signs of forced entry to the school. Officers observed that a screen was cut and there were signs that the surrounding frame was pried. This had reportedly occurred sometime between May 22nd and 25th. Officers checked the interior of the building and found that entry had not been gained. No other damages were found.

2:43 p.m. – A Bradford Street resident reported that sometime between May 22nd and May 24th their unlocked vehicle was entered while it was parked in their driveway. Approximately $600 worth of property was taken from the vehicle, including prescription sunglasses, clothing, boots, jumper cables, an iPhone charger, cell phone holder and a company gas card.

10:59 a.m. – The owner of a Harristown Road law firm reported that 30 fraudulent checks had been drawn on their business checking account. The bank was notified and placed a hold on the account. The firm has not suffered a financial loss. All records associated with the fraud were provided and the detective bureau is reviewing the matter pending cooperation from the Bank of America.

5:57 a.m. – A Glen Rock teen and his mother reported that he was the victim of an online fraud. The teen had attempted to purchase a pair of shoes over Instagram. The shoes were advertised for sale on Facebook Market place and the contact was via Instagram. A price was agreed to and paid using Zelle “quick pay”. The seller then demanded an additional $100 and refused to send the shoes if the additional payment was not made. When the teen refused, the seller blocked him on social media and kept the money. The detective bureau is currently reviewing the transaction. The exact identity and location of the seller has not been confirmed.

1:53 p.m. – A Glen Rock woman reported fraudulent purchases made on her credit card. She became aware of this when she was contacted by her credit card company concerning multiple suspicious transactions which were detected at Victoria Secret, Nike and Best Buys totaling $ 1,000. All the transactions were subsequently canceled.

8:02 p.m. – A resident of Rock Road, near Lincoln Avenue, reported the theft of a package from her front porch. The package contained photographic equipment and was valued at $49.05. This reportedly occurred sometime between 4PM and 8PM.

8:23 p.m. – A resident on the 500 block of Prospect Street reported that a flag attached to the back of his truck with a fiberglass pole had been damaged. The flag was ripped and broken from the rear of his truck. Two individuals, a male and a female, were detected by a neighbor’s Nest video. The video is being reviewed by detectives.

2:44 a.m. – While on patrol along Highwood Avenue, Sgt. Bryan Scott came upon a Jeep which was unoccupied in the travel portion of the roadway with the driver side door ajar. The keys were located in the vehicle, which was littered with garbage. A woman’s makeup bag was also recovered in the street near the vehicle.

The vehicle’s owner was located at her apartment in Ridgewood. She was in a highly intoxicated state and first claimed that her vehicle was in the driveway by her apartment. She then claimed it had been stolen along with a purse belonging to another woman at her apartment. These allegations were investigated by the Ridgewood Police Department.

As all the occupants of the apartment were intoxicated or did not have valid drivers’ licenses, the vehicle was parked on Highwood Avenue and secured by officers at the scene. The owner was advised to contact the Glen Rock Police Department when she is sober to claim her vehicle.

2:01 p.m. – P.O. James Mc Gill was flagged down while on patrol after a female on a bicycle had been struck by the passenger sideview mirror of a truck which had already left the scene. The woman declined medical aid. The incident occurred along Harristown Road near the intersection of Berkeley Place. The vehicle involved is described as a black utility type vehicle commonly used for construction or landscaping. The mirror broke when the woman was struck. The truck was last seen east on Harristown Road heading towards Ackerman Avenue. Anyone who may have witnessed this occur is asked to contact the Glen Rock Police Department at (201) 652-3800.

8:55 p.m. – A Kenmore Place resident reported the theft of packages and mail from his home. The resident reported that his Nest doorbell system had activated. He checked the video and observed an individual walk on to his porch. The subject took the mail out of his mailbox and two packages from the front porch and left the area. The subject appeared to be a dark skinned male, possibly Hispanic, with a black sweatshirt, ripped jeans, a black backpack and wearing a mask. The subject departed as the resident was calling for police assistance. A team of officers searched the area with negative results. The video has been forwarded to the detective bureau.

6:37 p.m. – P.O. Matt Stanislao and P.O. T.J. Graziani responded to a reported shoplifting at Bottle King Liquors on Prospect Street. Store personnel reported that a male and female, involved in repeated shoplifting incidents at the store, had just fled after taking a bottle of Patron Silver Tequila and a bottle of Clase Azul Tequila. The officers were able to apprehend both individuals and store employees were able to positively identify them.

The female subject, a 27-year-old West Orange woman, was arrested by P.O. T.J. Graziani for both this shoplifting incident as well as two others. The first occurred on March 7th, 2020 when she stole a bottle of Hennessy. The second occurred on May 20th, 2020 when she stole two bottles of Patron Silver Tequila.

The male subject, a 40-year-old Teaneck man, was arrested by P.O. T.J. Graziani for conspiracy to commit shoplifting.

Both actors were transported to police headquarters where they were processed and released on their own recognizance pending an appearance before Central Judicial Processing at the Superior Court in Hackensack on July 10th, 2020.
