Glen Rock Police Officers Honored, Sworn In, And Promoted

Lt. Christopher McInerney, was presented with a proclamation and plaque honoring his 20 years of service to the borough.

GLEN ROCK, NJ — Police officers were sworn in, others were promoted, and one was honored at a council meeting Wednesday.

Lt. Christopher McInerney was recognized with a proclamation and was presented with a plaque for his 20 years of dedicated service to the community, said Chief Dean Ackermann.

A borough native, McInerney began his law enforcement career in 1992 with the New York City Police Department before transferring to Glen Rock. He was promoted to sergeant in 2006. In October 2016, he was appointed interim executive officer and played a key role in the department's reorganization. Promoted to lieutenant in November, He is a platoon commander and professional standards officer.

McInerney is overseeing the development of the department's Community Outreach Unit.

Lucas Doney, a 10-year borough officer, was appointed to detective. He was assigned to the Detective Bureau for six months in February. Before then, he was a patrol officer. He is also the department's domestic violence liaison and training officer.

William Petttit and Tony Torke Jr. were sworn in as class one special officers. They are full-time dispatchers at Northwest Bergen Central Dispatch. They will begin basic training at the Bergen County Police Academy in September.

Special police officers are unarmed, part-time employees. They can arrest people for disorderly and petty disorderly person offenses they see occur, issue traffic and parking summonses, and enforce municipal ordinances.

Rev. Sean Manson was sworn in as the department's chaplain. He replaces the late Rev. Dr. Roger Spencer, who served for 20 years. Manson served at Mt. Carmel Church in Ridgewood prior to his current position at Our Lady Mother of the Church in Woodcliff Lake.

Police chaplains serve without compensation. They visit sick or injured people, counsel police officers and their families, and serve as liaisons with other clergy in the community.
