Glen Rock Ranked 35th Safest Town In N.J.

Annual safety and security report by Safewise.com says low crime, new police chief make up township's ranking.

Glen Rock ranks 35th on a statewide list of the safety communities in New Jersey.

Safewise.com, the self-proclaimed “authority on safety and home security news,” released its 2015 safest towns in New Jersey list, and New Milford was ranked number 10 in the state.

“Walkability is one of the reasons people choose to call Glen Rock home,” the report states. “A school system which ranks among the state’s best, diverse housing, and close proximity to Manhattan are more. Suffice it to say, Glen Rock’s Newcomers Club is never short on members.”

Glen Rock also tied with Hasbrouck Heights for second fewest number of burglaries in communities on this list. There was only only incident of violent crime reported in 2013 and less than eight instances of property crimes per 1,000 people, the report states.

The rankings were based on communities in the Garden State with at least 10,000 people in 2013 and crime data reported to the FBI, known as the Uniform Crime Report. Safewise compared the number of reported violent crimes and property crimes in each city, and based each on a per-1,000 person ratio to make the ratios even across small and large towns.
