Glen Rock School to Participate in International Walk to School Day Oct. 8
Byrd School in Glen Rock will participate in the event, which aims to promote healthier habits and a cleaner environment.

Glen Rock’s Byrd School will be participating in International Walk to School Day on Wednesday, Oct. 8.
International Walk to School Day, which began in 1997 as a one-day event, is a global event that involves communities from more than 40 countries walking and biking to school on the same day.
Sponsored by the National Center for Safe Routes to School, this event has become part of a movement for year-round safe routes to school and a celebration – with record breaking participation – every October. Thousands of schools across America – from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico – participate each October.

Why should students and parents walk to school? The National Center for Safe Routes to School says because it’s fun, it promotes healthier habits and a cleaner environment, it promotes safety and benefits the community by reducing traffic congestion.
According to The National Center for Safe Routes to School, Glen Rock’s Byrd School will be participating, along with Bergen County schools in Wyckoff, Cresskill, Leonia and Tenafly.
