"I applied to the Fulbright Program for professional development and to get a deeper understanding of the political relationship between Taiwan, China and the United States," Fishman said of his decision to pursue the program. "I hope to bring back a foundational knowledge of Mandarin to better modify instruction for my future Chinese students."

Since its inception in 1945, the Fulbright Program has become the flagship international educational exchange program sponsored by the United States government. It is designed to increase mutual understanding between citizens of the United States and other countries.

Fulbright recipients are selected on the basis of academic achievements and their leadership potential.

"We are all so proud Jeremy has earned — and will pursue — this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity," said Domenica Dominguez, director of the Study Abroad and International Programs and the university's Fulbright advisor. "There is no better program for students who have an interest in engaging with people of other cultures than the Fulbright Program."
