Graffiti, Scams And Unlocked Cars: Glen Rock Police Blotter
Members of the Glen Rock Police Department handled 382 service calls between April 26 and May 2, the department said.

04-27-2021
6:04 AM – Patrols were dispatched to the area of Rock Road and Harding Plaza to investigate a report of an unconscious man laying in the street. Upon arrival officers found a 50-year-old Wyckoff man passed out partially on the sidewalk and partially in the street. The man, who was in a highly intoxicated state, was transported by ambulance to Bergen New Bridge Medical Center for detox.

7:47 AM – Officers on patrol observed graffiti on the bus stop enclosure at Prospect Street and Cornwall Road, as well as under the Route 208 overpass on Boulevard. Both NJ Transit and the NJ Department of Transportation were notified for removal. A follow-up by the Detective Bureau found that the graffiti in question has been found at various locations throughout the county. There are no known witnesses to any of the incidents.

2 PM – A Glen Rock resident reported falling victim to a gift card scam. The victim had received an email from someone impersonating a friend from their Church requesting a favor. The purported friend asked that the victim purchase $300 worth of Google Play gift cards for a child’s gift and forward the PIN number identification via email. When the victim emailed the information to the friend’s proper email address it was learned that this was a scam. Due to the actual friend’s response, the victim suffered no financial loss.

9:51 PM – A resident on the 500 block of Doremus Avenue reported that their 2006 Honda Pilot had been stolen from the driveway of their home sometime after 8PM. The vehicle had been left unlocked with the keys inside. A short time later the resident also noticed that a second vehicle parked in the driveway, which was also unlocked, had been entered as well. This vehicle had been rummaged through with the keys, three folding sports chairs and some old clothing removed. It was recommended that the resident take steps to safeguard the vehicle and have it rekeyed.
At 1:20 AM on April 30th, the NJ State Police in Bloomfield reported that the stolen vehicle had been involved in a motor vehicle accident on the Garden State Parkway. The occupant(s) fled the scene and left the vehicle behind, which sustained extensive damage. The Detective Bureau is continuing the investigation in cooperation with the NJ State Police.

4:48 AM – An alert resident noticed a group of individuals attempting to enter vehicles in residents’ driveways in the area of Woodvale Road. Sgt. Bryan Scott, P.O. Annamarie Mattina and P.O. Nick Onove subsequently apprehended five individuals without incident and impounded a vehicle involved, with the assistance of officers from Ridgewood and Fair Lawn. Further investigation revealed evidence that the actors entered several vehicles on Woodvale Road and Fieldmere Road. Proceeds from the thefts were found in the vehicle they were operating and on their persons. Also recovered in the vehicle was a high-capacity handgun magazine and ammunition. A thorough search of the vehicle and the area in which the crimes were committed failed to recover a handgun.
Five Newark residents, all males ages 18, 19 and 20, were subsequently arrested and transported to police headquarters. All were charged with Burglary, Theft, Possession of Burglary Tools and Possession of a High-Capacity Handgun Magazine. One 20 year old was also charged with Hindering Apprehension by Providing False Information to Law Enforcement. Investigation found that all vehicles known to have been entered were left unlocked.
All five actors were processed and released on their own recognizance pending an appearance before Central Judicial Processing at the Superior Court in Hackensack on May 21st, 2021.

1:48 PM – A Glen Rock resident reported receiving a bill purported to be from Cablevision for services which were not part of his subscription. When he called the phone number associated with the bill an operator claimed that the victim’s router had been hacked and that $ 1,600 was missing from his bank account. The victim was informed that in order to resolve the matter that a fee of $ 3,000 would need to be paid with Google Gift cards. The victim became suspicious when he was asked to mail the gift cards to Colombia. He was also informed by a bank teller that this was most likely a scam when he went to the bank to withdraw money. The Detective Bureau is currently reviewing the matter.

3:56 PM – A resident on the 100 block of East Gramercy reported that two bicycles were stolen from his yard. The theft occurred at an unknown time over the last week. There are no known witnesses.
