Man Bites, Assaults Officers Following Arrest: Police

Newark man arrested following a foot chase last week, police said.

A Newark man bit, kicked, and spit at several Ridgewood police officers following a brief foot chase last week, police reported.

On June 25, Officers Colin Donnelly and Joseph DiBenedetoo responded to the Central Business District on a report of a disturbance; they saw a man, Fransisco A. Andino, 23, sitting the sidewalk at Van Neste Square and East Ridgewood Avenue, police said.

Police were notified that there was a warrant out for Andino’s arrest out of Hoboken for assaulting a police officer, police said.

Andino attempted to flee on foot but Donnelly ran after him and arrested him, authorities said.

While at police headquarters, Andino assaulted several officers by biting, kicking, and spitting at them, police said.

He was charged with three counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, and obstructing administrator of the law, police said.

Bail was set at $15,000. Andino was transported to the Bergen County Sheriff’s Unit at Bergen Regional Medical Center, authorities said.
