Man Holds Knife To Robbery Victim's Chest, Demands Money

The man got about $500 from the gas station attendant before fleeing the scene, police said.

A man armed with a knife robbed a local gas station attendant Friday night, police said.

A man forced his way into the outside booth the attendant was sitting in at the Delta gas station at 390 Floral Lane at 9:30 p.m., said Saddle Brook Police Chief Robert Kugler.

The man placed a large knife against the attendant's chest and demanded all the attendant's money, Kugler said. The attendant gave the man more than $500, he said.

"The victim did the right thing when confronted with this life or death scenario," Kugler said. "Any resistance or other action, other than immediately handing over the money he had in hand, could of ended in tragedy. At that moment, it wasn't a fight or flight moment, but one to acquiesce and allow the incident to unfold the way it did."

The suspect was last seen on Floral Lane towards Long Memorial School, the chief said. He is described as having a "large build," between 5'10" and 6'2" tall and was wearing dark-colored clothing, gloves and a mask, Kugler said.
