Men Trafficked Cocaine Near Ridgewood School: Prosecutor

Hector Rivas, 25, was arrested after he sold 80 bags of cocaine to an undercover detective, authorities said.

RIDGEWOOD, NJ — A village man has been arrested after authorities said he sold 80 bags of cocaine to an undercover detective following an investigation, authorities said.

Hector Rivas, 25, a dishwasher living on E. Ridgewood Avenue, was arrested after the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Narcotics Task Force received information in October that he was trafficking cocaine in the village, Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal announced Thursday.

Rivas distributed cocaine to undercover detectives in the weeks that followed, Grewal said. On Nov. 15, Rivas negotiated the sale of 80 bags of cocaine that Victor Martinez, 28, of Bloomfield delivered to an undercover detective, he said.

Rivas and Martinez were arrested following the transaction. They were each charged with distribution of cocaine and distribution of cocaine in a drug-free school zone, the prosecutor said. An additional count of each charge was filed against Rivas.

Both men are due in Bergen County Central Judicial Processing Court Nov. 29.
