Midland Park Man Tried To Melt Snow With Gas, Fire: Police

A Midland Park man used half a gallon of gasoline to start a fire in an attempt to melt the snow in his backyard, police said.

MIDLAND PARK, NJ — Police and fire officials responded to a Midland Park home Friday after a man tried to melt off snow and ice from his backyard by starting a small fire, police said.

Police said the man poured about half a gallon of gasoline on a small patch in his backyard with the idea to use fire to melt the snow. A neighbor reported that a man was setting things on fire in his backyard to police around 7:30 p.m., authorities said.

The Bergen County Hazmat unit was eventually called to the Paterson Avenue home, where they used Speedy Dry to soak up the gasoline, and assisted the fire department with further clean-up.
