Detectives from the Paterson Police Department, accompanied by officers from the South Hackensack Police Department, approached room 130 at the Knights Inn at approximately 8:37 a.m. Upon announcing their presence, the officers heard gunshots fired inside the room and immediately tried to force entry, according to the BCPO.
After being unable to force open the door, one Paterson officer discharged his firearm, firing a single round through a lower corner of the tempered glass window. Once the window shattered, the officer made entry through it and discovered the lifeless bodies of both the victim and suspect, according to the BCPO.
The shot fired by an officer did not strike anyone, according to the BCPO.
During the crime scene examination, a revolver was recovered. It appears that Segura-Montero shot and killed the victim and then turned the gun on himself; however, the final determination as to the cause and manner of death will be determined by the Bergen County Medical Examiner’s Office.
