Rooney Claims 'Victory' For Republicans In NJ 40th Assembly Race
Incumbent Republicans Kevin Rooney and Christopher DePhillips have a steady lead with just five precincts left to report.

NJ 40 — Incumbent Republican Assemblyman Kevin Rooney has claimed a win for himself and fellow Republican Christopher DePhillips in the state's 40th District.
"VICTORY for #LD40!!! Thank you to all the voters and parents who stood by us. We will continue to represent you in Trenton," said Rooney, on Facebook.

The Associated Press has yet to call the race, but the unofficial vote count shows the Republican candidates with a commanding lead over Democrats Nicole McNamara and Genevieve Allard with just five precincts yet to report.

Here are the latest unofficial vote tallies, according to the Associated Press:
- Kevin Rooney (R) — 43,788
- Christopher DePhillips (R) — 43,787
- Nicole McNamara (D) — 29,019
- Genevieve Allard (D) — 28,597
Rooney and DePhillips also swept each of the four counties that make up the 40th District, garnering no less than 28 percent of the vote in Bergen, Essex, Passaic or Morris Counties. Five precincts are still to report in Passaic County.
