Pedestrian Hospitalized After Being Hit By Drunk Driver: Bergen County Prosecutor

A Bergen County man has been charged with DWI after striking a pedestrian on Valentine's Day, prosecutors said.

TEANECK NJ — A Teaneck man remains hospitalized after being struck by a drunk driver in that town on Friday, prosecutors said Monday.

Tobias Aparicio Cruz, 55, of Bogota, was charged with assault by auto and driving while intoxicated after hitting the man around 11:16 p.m., said the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office.

First responders headed to Cedar Lane near Teaneck Cinemas on Friday, prosecutors said.

They determined that Cruz's 2005 Nissan Sentra had struck a 53-year-old man from Teaneck.

The pedestrian was seriously injured and remains hospitalized at Hackensack University Medical Center, prosecutors said.

Cruz was arrested at the scene on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, prosecutors said. He also received citations for related traffic offenses.

He was taken to the Bergen County Jail to await his first appearance in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack.
