Peter McGinley Represents Ridgewood in Boston Hockey Competition
The RHS junior competes at Hockey Night in Boston
Peter McGinley was just one of over 400 players that took part in this year’s Hockey Night in Boston Major Showcase in Haverhill, Massachusetts. Skaters came from over 20 states and three Canadian provinces, but McGinley was the sole representative from Ridgewood.
McGinley plays for the North Jersey Avalanche team as well as the Ridgewood High School team. Last season, he potted 25 goals and added 23 assists, earning him an invitation to compete for the Mid-Atlantic squad at this year’s tournament.
The HNIB Major Showcase has produced numerous NHLers including Bill Guerin, Jeremy Roenick, and Brian Leetch.

“It means a lot [to represent Ridgewood],” McGinley said. “I guess I’m kind of representing the town and the school. It is probably the best hockey I’ve ever played. You don’t have much to make decisions, but it’s good, I feel I’m learning a lot.”
McGinley’s mother made the 200-plus mile trip to watch her son play.

“She’s thrilled,” McGinley said. “[My mom] really loves coming to my games, she really wanted to come up here.”
While McGinley’s mother may have been his number one fan, it was the numerous prep school and college scouts that were most interested in gauging his performance, but he didn’t seem to mind.
“Obviously I want to get noticed, but that’s not my number one thing right now,” McGinley said. “I just want to have fun and play hockey. I’m just trying to learn and get better.”
McGinley and his Mid-Atlantic team were eliminated after posting a 2-5 record in the opening round. He will be a senior in the fall and will again suit up for both the Avalanche and Ridgewood High School.
“I love the sport,” McGinley said. “Playing on two teams in the winter is fun, but it can be a lot. I can’t complain, I love playing."
