RIDGEWOOD, NJ — Donning a Ridgewood High School letterman jacket, Willie Geist, anchor of Sunday Today with Willie Geist, and co-anchor of MSNBC's Morning Joe, took a trip down memory lane over the weekend.

Geist played host for another live event, this time a "Chalk Talk" panel, where he discussed, among other things, the 1991 Ridgewood High School state championship football team.

He was joined by Ridgewood High coach Chuck Johnson and Ramapo coach Drew Gibbs, who was the number one assistant at Ridgewood during the 1991 season.

Geist was a captain in 1992, and a junior on this 1991 state championship team, when he scored the only touchdown in the state sectional, semi-final game against Paterson Eastside. The 1991 team eventually defeated North Bergen to take home the crown, the first of the Chuck Johnson-era at Ridgewood High.

Local tech startup Kohort Technologies and their communications platform, GroupSpot, presented the 30-year anniversary Chalk Talk event at Ridgewood High School Stadium on Saturday. The event was a fundraiser supporting the RHS Football Scholarship Committee, which provides needs-based scholarships to senior football players, and the RHS Alumni Association, which connects graduates and supports RHS initiatives and projects.
