Police Warn Against PSE&G Phone Scam

Ridgewood business owner received four calls saying they owed $569, authorities said.

Ridgewood police are warning about a phone scam with callers informing residents and business owners they are delinquent on their utility bills.

A Ridgewood business received four ”suspicious” telephone calls Friday form someone who said they were from PSE&G and said the business owner was delinquent paying their bill, police said.

Police said the caller threatened to turn off electric service to that address if the business owners failed to provide them with with $569 on prepaid MoneyPak cards.

“This type of fraudulent call has been on the upswing with the calls frequently originating from outside the United States,” police said.

PSE&G will not call residents to notify them of unpaid bills.
