Purses Stolen From 2 Vehicles This Week: Police

Here is a look at what incidents police investigated in Ridgewood this week.

RIDGEWOOD, N.J. — On Jan. 3, the Stop and Shop located at 175 Franklin Ave. reported a shoplifting had just occurred when the suspect was seen fleeing from the business without making payment for merchandise, police said. The total amount stolen was approximately $150; the detective bureau is investigating the incident, police said.

  • A Shelton Road resident responded to Ridgewood Police headquarters on Jan. 3, to report a fraud. The victim reported he received a Target store credit card in the mail which he did not request, police said. The victim then called Target credit services and discovered an unknown person opened a Target store credit card in his name without authorization. The victim completed a Target store affidavit and was advised to complete a police report to document the incident, authorities said.
  • On Jan. 4, the Kings Supermarket loss prevention investigator reported a shoplifting had just occurred when two men were observed to have removed two bottles of liquor from the liquor department, concealed the bottles in their jackets and then fled from the business without making payment, police said. The Detective Bureau is investigating the incident.
  • A loss prevention investigator for the Stop and Shop responded to Ridgewood Police headquarters on Jan. 5, to report a shoplifting. The complainant reported a man concealed deodorant and razors valued at $360 within a shopping cart and left the business without paying, police said. The detective bureau is investigating the incident.
  • On Jan. 6, patrol conducted a residential check of a vacant home on Stonycroft Road and determined the home was unlawfully entered in the past, police said. Patrol determined access was gained by an unknown person cutting through a screened door; there was no sign of criminal activity within the residence, only that a contractor had recently been within the residence, police said. Patrol was able to secure the residence as they exited.
  • Patrolman Michael McDermott and Patrolman Brandon Donnelly saw a suspicious vehicle at 1200 East Ridgewood Ave. at 11:15 p.m. on Jan. 6, police said. Patrol conducted a motor vehicle stop and observed drug paraphernalia within the vehicle, police said. Upon further investigation the driver, a 19-year-old Ridgewood resident, was arrested at the scene for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, police said. The arrestee was transported to police headquarters, processed and released with a pending court date and was also issued a motor vehicle summons, police said.
  • On Jan. 7, patrol units were dispatched to the Stop and Shop for a shoplifting in progress. Upon arrival it was reported the person fled from the business towards North Walnut Street with $522 in merchandise, police said. Patrol observed the person fleeing from the scene and arrested the actor after a foot pursuit, police said. The 44-year-old, Paterson resident was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, obstruction of justice, burglary and robbery upon completion of the investigation, police said. The actor was transported to police headquarters, processed and remanded to the Bergen County Jail, police said.
  • A Delaware Road resident reported on Jan. 8 that her motor vehicle was forcefully entered and property was inside while it was parked at 1 Passaic Street, police said. The passenger-side window was shattered and a purse and its contents were stolen, police said. The Detective Bureau is investigating the incident.
  • On Jan. 9, a West End Avenue resident reported an unknown person entered her unlocked parked vehicle at 1 Passaic Street the previous day and said a purse and its contents were stolen. The detective bureau is investigating the incident.
