Residency Requirement Nixed in Ridgewood

The old regulations required most village workers to be residents of Ridgewood.

Hours of vicious negotiation ended with the Village Council narrowly voting to remove a residency requirement for village employees, according to a NorthJersey.com report.

The negotiations included multiple allegations of harassment and statements suggesting that removing the residency requirement was akin to not having faith in residents, the report states.

The Council voted 3-2, with the Mayor, Deputy Mayor, and one Councilwoman voting in favor of the measure, according to the report.
