Ridgewood Officials Give Back Downtown Parking Spaces To Commuters

Some of the spaces had been designated for commuters.

RIDGEWOOD, N.J. — The Village Council Wednesday reallocated parking spaces downtown for commuters after locals spoke out against officials' plan to designate the spaces for shoppers and diners.

Thirty-five spaces in the Hudson Street parking lot and 29 at the Prospect Street lots had been set aside for business customers. The council amended its parking ordinance to restore 16 spaces in the Hudson Street lot and 10 at Prospect Street for all-purpose use.

Residents said there was miscommunication on what changes would be made to the downtown parking and Mayor Susan Knudsen said as much.

Permits to park at the train station plaza and the Hudson and Prospect lots was increased this year from $750 to $1,000, which residents also disagreed with.
