Newborn Ridgewood Girl OK After Surprise Home Birth: Police
The baby was born on Sept. 30 at a William Street house. Police rushed there while the woman was in labor and kept her safe.

RIDGEWOOD, NJ — Police officers helped keep a newborn girl and her mother safe after the baby was born at home Saturday morning, said Chief Jacqueline Lutchke.
Officers Douglas Christopher and Patrick Elmwood responded to a call at about 11:30 a.m. of a woman in labor at a William Street home, the chief said.
The officers arrived right after the baby was born, Lutchke said.

The officers cleared the baby's airway and ensured she was breathing properly when she and the mother were put in the ambulance, Lutchke said.
Lutchke commended the officers and the actions of Ridgewood Ambulance Corps and EMTs Ace Antonio and Dr. Robert Lahita.
