Ridgewood Police Received Multiple Reports Of Identity Theft This Week

One resident reported a $1,500 credit card purchase from Bob's Furniture, police said.

RIDGEWOOD, N.J. —

  • On Oct. 3, a Greenway Road resident reported Criminal Mischief in the past. The resident reported an unknown person damaged Halloween decorations in front of his house. The amount of damage was reported to be approximately $50. Police investigated the incident.
  • A Cambridge Road resident responded to the Police Department on Oct. 5 to report identity theft. The victim reported she received two Chase credit cards in the mail without her authorization. The victim contacted Chase Bank and was informed someone used her personal identity and applied for the credit cards. Chase Bank cancelled the credit cards and is investigating the incident.
  • On Oct. 6, Pequannock Police arrested a 27-year-old Paterson resident as the result of a traffic stop. The man was found to have an active warrant for arrest from the Ridgewood Municipal Court for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Pequannock Police contacted this department and confirmed the warrant. Police responded to Pequannock, took custody of the man, and transported him to Ridgewood for processing and an appearance in municipal court. The man appeared before the court and was released with a future pending court date.
  • Police responded to a South Broad Street business on a report of a shoplifting theft in the past. An employee reported a female party entered the business on Oct. 6 and was observed to have concealed merchandise in a bag and then exit the business without making payment. The Detective Bureau is investigating the incident.
  • On Oct. 7, a Glenwood Road resident responded to the Police Department to report Identity Theft in the past. The victim reported discovering an unauthorized credit card purchase on his Chase credit card in the amount of $1,527 from Bob’s Furniture. The victim reported he was satisfied that Chase reversed the unauthorized charge and he only requested documentation of the incident.
  • Police conducted a motor vehicle stop on Dayton Street for a traffic violation. During the motor vehicle stop police discovered the driver had an outstanding warrant for arrest from the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office. Police confirmed the warrant and the 55-year-old Long Branch man was arrested at the scene and transported to police headquarters. Members of the Monmouth County Sheriff's Office responded to the Ridgewood Police department and took custody of the arrestee. Police issued a motor vehicle summons to the driver.
