Ridgewood Resident Joe Palombo Elected to Scholarship America Board
Families of Freedom scholarship winner gives back by volunteering on Scholarship America Board of Trustees

MINNEAPOLIS (March 17, 2017) – Scholarship America®, the nation’s leading nonprofit scholarship and educational support organization, is pleased to announce Joseph Palombo, senior accountant, Tiptree Financial, Inc., has been elected to serve as a member of its Board of Trustees.
Palombo is responsible for corporate accounting for various subsidiaries of TipTree Financial, located in New York, NY. Previously he worked as audit senior at Marcum LLP, New York, NY and as a fixed income division intern at Broadridge Financial Solutions, Jersey City, NJ.
“Joe brings a wealth of accounting expertise to our board,” said Robert C. Ballard, president and CEO of Scholarship America. “He also brings the very personal experience of having been a scholarship recipient through the Families of Freedom Scholarship Fund, administered through Scholarship America. This Fund was established to provide postsecondary education assistance to financially needy dependents of those killed or permanently disabled as a result of the September 11, 2001 attacks. Over $116 million has been awarded to date to over 3,800 individuals, including Joe and seven of his siblings. Two additional siblings will also benefit in the next few years. “

“My dad was a firefighter who lost his life on 9/11,” Palombo said. “Families of Freedom got me through college. I am honored to serve on the Scholarship America Board of Trustees and do what I can to help ensure scholarships are available for others. I know what a difference a scholarship makes.”
Polombo earned BBA and MBA degrees in public accounting from Pace University, Lubin School of Business in New York.
