Ridgewood Residents Can Use App To Pay For Municipal Parking Beginning Monday

Switchover is the first step of implementing mobile payment transactions for parking lots.

Editor’s note: An earlier version of this story stated that the village would pay the .35-cent transaction fee for residents. The village is paying for the credit card fees associated with using the app, not the transaction fees.

Parkmobile announced a new partnership with Ridgewood yesterday that will allow residents to pay for parking using their smartphones.

Drivers using the Chestnut Street parking lot and the Route 17 park and ride lot can use the Parkmobile app to pay for their parking time beginning Monday. The application is available for iPhone, Android, Windows, Blackberry, and Amazon phones.

“We are excited to work with Parkmobile, a pay by phone industry leader, and implement a Village-wide pay by phone option,” Ridgewood officials stated in a press release.

The service will be available beginning Monday, officials said.

Users need to register their vehicle’s license plate at parkmobile.com or using the app and link their credit card to their account. Vehicles can be stored on more than one device.

The app provides a countdown timer that lets people know just how much time they have remaining to park. The app also sends out push notifications 15 minutes before the time expires.

A committee examined implementing several high-tech options to replace aging parking meters at municipal parking locations.

Glen Rock began using the Parkmobile app in 2013.
