The district will institute a day of remote learning on Friday "due to potentially hazardous conditions" caused by the storm.

RIDGEWOOD, NJ — Public school students will spend their Thursday reading a good book, drinking hot chocolate or, most likely, sleeping in.

The Ridgewood Public School District announced Wednesday that, ahead of the evening snow storm, the district would cancel Thursday classes.

"Due to the inclement weather, all Ridgewood Public Schools will be closed on Thursday, December 17. No virtual classes will be held," the district said, in an alert posted to their website.

After school activities are also cancelled, and school specific schedules are being sent to parents.

Wednesday's storm could produce dangerous road conditions and knock out power in many parts of the state, experts predict.

During a Wednesday news conference with Gov. Phil Murphy, New Jersey Board of Public Utilities Director James Giuliano said he expects to encounter outages during the course of the storm as high winds could knock down trees and damage power lines.
