Ridgewood Teen Plans To Swim From N.J. To Long Island, Report Says

Charlotte Samuels isn’t satisfied with being the youngest person to complete the triple crown of open-water swimming. She’s going for more.

At 16, she was the youngest person to swim around Manhattan Island in June, crossed the Catalina Channel off Southern California in August, and swam the English Channel in September, The Record reported.

Samuels, now 17, is planning on making the 12-hour swim between Long Island and the Jersey Shore Aug. 21.

Samuels has been spending two hours a day preparing for the swim, The Record reported; she plans on starting her journey in Sea Bright and hitting land near Atlantic Beach in Hempstead.

She is also working on a memoir about her experience swimming the English Channel and about how ”you don’t have to be extraordinary to do extraordinary things,” Samuels told The Record.
